Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank d.d. ranks among leading banks on the Croatian market. It is a member of Hypo Group Alpe Adria, the financial group that has developed its business network in 12 countries of the wider Alpe-Adria region: Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Ukraine. The parent bank of what is currently Hypo Group Alpe Adria was founded in 1896 in Klagenfurt, Austria, and it spread its business to Croatian in 1994, when leasing operations were launched by Hypo-Leasing Kroatien d.o.o. The Group began banking in Croatiain 1996 with the establishment of Hypo Bank Kroatien d.d. that under a group decision three years later changed its name to Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank d.d.

The bank gained its current, recognizable visual identity in 2006, when all members of Hypo Group Alpe Adria assumed a joint logo – stylized silver Alpstowering over the blue of the Adriatic, symbolizing regional unity and international character of the Group.

Ten years since its establishment, Hypo Alpe-Adria-Banka in Croatiapresses on with its growth trend. It operates via a business network of 41 branches and outlets in all major centres of central Croatia, Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia. A capital merger with Slavonska Banka Osijek created a bank union that also covers eastern Croatia, adding another 28 branches and outlets. The complex bank merger process is planned to be completed in 2009.

Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank launched its operations in Croatia through long-term financing of corporate clients, gaining prominence with a readiness to invest in tourism and infrastructure projects of local government and self-government. Its current business encompasses any kind of service that a modern universal financial institution offers. Hypo bank was the first financial institution in Croatiato have issued its own kuna-denominated bonds (worth 150 million kuna), while its role in arranging a government bond issue totaling 350 million euros that matures in 2015 is also worth noting. Through a daughter company, Hypo Alpe-Adria Invest it manages an investment fund that is among the earliest in the Croatian market.

Corporate operations currently make up most of the Bank’s business that serves as a confirmation of dedicated support through various programmes and systematic incentives to the Croatian economy. However, much attention is also paid to retail operations, a segment in which products and services are introduced continually in response to client needs and market developments. For instance, the beginning of the year 2008 was marked by the especially affordable "All-purpose" loan and Golden savings, and the Bank is entering the Summer with Hypo Twin - a unique product that combines investment and saving with attractive interest rates. At the same time, the Bank has offered its clients the possibility to trade with securities on the capital markets of FYR Macedonia and the Ukraine, expanding the investment banking segment to two interesting markets.

By expanding the network of branch offices, Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank services become more accessible to current and potential clients. This is precisely why the Bank has worked steadily on expanding the branch and retail office network. In early 2008 the Bank opened a retail branch office in the Zagreb neighborhood of Prečko, as well as the Regional Center for Istria and Kvarner in Rijeka, soon followed by new branch offices in Karlovac and Koprivnica.

Early in 2007, the Bank inaugurated its new main building – Hypo Centre in Zagreb which, thanks to its modern architecture, meets very high functional demands while offering the most up-to-date office space and accompanying facilities. It also houses the head offices of all members of Hypo Group Alpe Adria in Croatia. Eight hundred employees of Hypo Group have moved from seven former locations in Zagrebto some 25,000 square metres of offices designated for Hypo Group. The ground floor features a new Bank outlet spanning 900 square metres, making it the largest branch office of Hypo Bank in Croatia. The new business headquarters clearly mirror the Bank’s long-term development and its contemporary business spirit.

Nowadays, socially responsible operations assume returning a portion of the profit back to the community as one of the basic prerequisites of any serious company’s. Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank recognizes the needs of the society in which it operates and its role in it, and has regularly set aside funds to help not only institutions but also physical persons who need them most. Such a business concept has served as the foundation for marking the first ten years of successful business operations in Croatia. Therefore the Bank has decided to launch an extensive donations project entitled 'ten for ten'.
