Description:

Bankhaus Schelhammer & Schattera is Vienna’s oldest private banking institution.

The name goes back to Carl Schelhammer and Eduard Schattera who were the firm’s owners in the second half of the 19th century. The bank passed into the majority ownership of institutions of the Catholic Church in the middle of the 20th century when the church started issuing reconstruction bonds.

Institutions belonging to the Roman-Catholic Church of Austria own the majority stake of around 85% of the share capital. The majority shareholders include the Conference of Superiors of Male Religious Orders as well as convents, monasteries and dioceses in Austria.

As an independent Austrian private banking institution, our commitment is only to our values and the objectives of our clients. Our banking business follows a value-oriented approach.

As the bank of the Catholic Church of Austria, Christian ethics guide our behaviour. People are at the focus of our activity. The establishment and maintenance of long-term customer relations by our qualified staff who have been employed by our bank for decades is a special feature of our style of banking.

In line with the trend of the times, their investment activity is supportive of business concepts based on ethical standards and the principle of sustainability, which in their opinion is a very competitive and forward-looking approach.

As a small, but first-rate universal bank, Schelhammer & Schattera offers professional services in the fields of investment and credit as well as payment transfers. The range of services on the lending side include all common financing products for private clients, church institutions and businesses. The lean structure of the company allows us to reach credit decisions fast while taking the specific circumstances of each individual customer into account.

Asset management is the traditional focus of activity of Schelhammer & Schattera. Business relationships built up over years and a network of global contacts to companies and institutions with a similar leaning enhances our competence in providing advice to customers independent of the investment style.

As the bank of the Roman-Catholic Church in Austria, Schelhammer & Schattera is closely involved in the Church’s widely varied tasks and responsibilities. Regardless of whether it is financing, investment or retirement provisions, the long years of experience with people and the tasks of the Catholic Church have helped to form a solid knowledge base that finds expression in competent and uncomplicated solutions.

The Schelhammer & Schattera investment management company was founded in 1988.

It is the leading specialist in Austria for investments in line with ethical and sustainability criteria, and the only investment management company in Austria that offers exclusively sustainable investment funds to private investors.
