Thanks to a modest recovery in industry and construction GDP growth accelerated slightly to 3% yoy in the third quarter of 2006 after having recorded moderate growth of 2.6% in the first half of 2006. Underpinned by stronger domestic demand a further pick-up in growth in the final quarter of 2006 can be anticipated, putting GDP growth for the whole 2006 at 2.8%, a considerable slowdown as compared to the revised 3.8% in 2005.

However, in light of the recent tax reform (introduction of a flat personal and corporate income tax rate of 12% as of 1 January 2007, and a further reduction of the flat tax to 10% in 2008), we expect the economy to gain momentum in 2007 and 2008, boosted by private consumption and investment.
